Intention + Attention = Manifestation
There is a fine line between thought and matter. In quantum physics, we learn that there is a direct relationship between perception and manifestation. Niels Bohr believed that the occurrence of phenomena is dependent on the observer. In metaphysical theory, we take that concept one step further by saying “Through the laws of manifestation, it is possible to manifest reality according to will by directing thought.”
In order to bring thought into form, we must place an intention. It is also essential to focus attention in order to bring about the manifestation of that intention. Intention is the idea, and attention is the awareness or energy. They are not the same thing. Intention is coming up with a clear and concise idea of what is to be manifested. Attention is the act of holding to the course. By doing this, we maintain enough energy around the intention to bring it to pass.
People place intentions all the time, but they often don’t come into manifestation for several reasons. In order to bring an intention to fruition, it must be embraced fully. If a person is at cross-purposes in regards to an intention, it is less likely come into fruition. For example, if a person wishes to have a relationship in their life and places that intention, it is going to be much harder for that person to manifest that intention if there is another part of the self that is afraid of having a relationship because of a fear of loss of freedom. Here we have two different parts of the self wanting two different things. Both are steadily working on the manifestation of their goals. One cancels the other out. In order to bring something into manifestation, an essential ingredient is the ability to get all parts of the self in alignment with the intention. (We’ll talk more about how to do that in the next chapter.)
The second ingredient is the power of attention. It is not enough to set an intention like a passing thought, it must be maintained. For example, if you want to plant a garden in order to get fruits and vegetables, you can’t just plant the seed and walk away expecting that it will bear fruit. The weeds need to be pulled, the plants must be thinned, fertilizer must be applied, and appropriate water must be given in order to have a bountiful garden. Sometimes by just placing intention, you will get a little is important so that one may achieve the highest manifestation possible.
